Il corso

The Master Degree Course in Precision Livestock Farming aims to train practitioners working in the field of animal production, with engineering and agronomic knowledge and skills, useful for improving production but also livestock health and welfare, minimizing the negative impacts on the environment and increasing the sustainability of supply chains.

The entire course of study has a limited number of places, is taught in English and is residential, at the Improsta Regional Experimental Farm, which has arable land, a dairy farm, an experimental dairy and several laboratories, as well as classrooms to ensure frontal teaching, study rooms, computer rooms, a guesthouse equipped for students and a canteen.

During the first year of the course, the disciplines related to the logistical and structural organization of livestock farms will be studied, through the learning and use of GIS and Digital mapping techniques. Knowledge of robotics, sensors and artificial intelligence will be essential for the implementation of precision techniques that, in the first year, will concern the production systems of forage created in with sustainable approach. The environmental impact of livestock is also studied in the course through a characterization of effluents, study of housing conditions and treatment methods, and GHG emissions. The curricular teachings of the first year of the course also include economic analysis of the farm and and production process controls. The second year is dedicated to deepening knowledge of precision techniques applied to the direct management of animals, from a productive, reproductive, sanitary and nutritional point of view.

The course is completed by 8 CFU in elective subjects, by a training and 12 CFU internship. At the end of the second year, the student will produce a final degree thesis, under the guidance of one of the professors of the Course of Studies and a report of the activities carried out during the training internship and the internship.
